Kentucky Baseball Prepares for NCAA Clemson Regional Opener Against West Virginia
The Kentucky Wildcats baseball team is set to kick off their run in the NCAA Clemson Regional this Friday, taking on the West Virginia Mountaineers at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for noon ET, live on ESPNU. This marks Kentucky’s 12th appearance in the NCAA Tournament and their third consecutive year of postseason play, following last season’s historic run to the College World Series.
Head Coach Nick Mingione praises his team’s achievements, acknowledging their milestone of three straight NCAA Regionals—an unprecedented feat in Kentucky’s storied baseball history. “We are five wins away from going back to the College World Series,” Mingione stated.
Kentucky enters the tournament with a record of 29-24 overall and a challenging 13-17 in Southeastern Conference play, having faced the nation’s ninth-toughest schedule. In contrast, West Virginia boasts an impressive 41-14 record and aims to leverage their regular season Big 12 Championship title.
The matchup recalls their previous encounter in the 2023 Lexington Regional, where Kentucky triumphed 10-0. This weekend’s action will also feature Clemson against USC Upstate, while the tournament will proceed in a double-elimination format until a champion is decided.
