WVU Freshman Joy Naukot Qualifies for NCAA Outdoor Championships

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Joy Naukot, a standout freshman on the West Virginia University track and field team, secured her place at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships by finishing eighth in the women’s 10,000 meters at the NCAA East First Rounds on Thursday night. Naukot achieved a personal best time of 32:51.33 during her performance at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida, making her the seventh athlete in WVU history to qualify for this prestigious event in the 10,000-meter race.

In addition to Naukot’s triumph, sophomore Kishay Rowe also showcased a remarkable performance, clocking a personal best of 2:03.98 in the first round of the 800 meters. However, Rowe fell short of qualifying for the finals by just 0.02 seconds, finishing 22nd overall.

The Mountaineers will continue to compete at the NCAA East First Rounds on Saturday, with events commencing at 2:30 p.m. ET, starting with the high jump. Other events include the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 5:40 p.m. and the 5,000 meters at 8:10 p.m.
