Major Drug Trafficking Network Disrupted in Alentejo by PSP
Évora, Portugal – May 30, 2025
A significant drug trafficking operation across central Alentejo has been dismantled by the Public Security Police (PSP) of Évora. This extensive investigation, spanning over a year and a half, culminated in the arrest of 13 individuals, comprising nine men and four women aged between 19 and 45. Currently, six of those arrested remain in custody.
The police operation, which extended beyond Évora to Montemor-o-Novo, Lisbon, and Samora Correia, resulted in a substantial seizure of narcotics. Authorities confiscated approximately 135,695 doses of hashish, 697 doses of cocaine, and 85 doses of ecstasy. In addition to drugs, nearly €60,000 in cash was seized, alongside five high-powered vehicles, a motorcycle, two nitrous oxide canisters, and firearms including a 6.35mm pistol and a 12-gauge shotgun.
“This is one of the largest seizures in recent years, not just for the PSP, but for the entire Alentejo region,” noted PSP sub-commissioner Nuno Albardeiro during a press conference. The operation began with an arrest in Évora and escalated through the execution of 29 coordinated search warrants across the region, including the Santarém District.
Officials from the PSP have characterized the crackdown as a significant blow to a sophisticated and extensive criminal enterprise, emphasizing the importance of continued vigilance and cooperation among law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking in the region. The successful operation highlights the PSP’s commitment to ensuring public safety and eradicating illegal drug activities in Portugal.
