Authorities are investigating a disturbing incident involving an embalmed infant found in a shipment of linens at a Shreveport dry cleaner. Employees at Alsco Uniforms contacted police after discovering what appeared to be a mummified infant wrapped in laundry just after 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Shreveport police described the scene as unsettling, with officers confirming the presence of a small, mummified body.
The investigation revealed that the linens originated from Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas. The infant, who died on May 3, was scheduled for cremation following a funeral service on May 17 but ended up in a laundry shipment instead. Police noted the strong odor of formaldehyde at the scene, indicating the infant had been embalmed, which is atypical for crime scenes.
The baby, whose clothing bore the initials “K.M.,” did not show any signs of foul play; however, authorities pointed to potential negligence either by the cleaning service or the funeral home itself. Corporal Chris Bordelon emphasized the bizarre nature of the circumstances and indicated that the case will likely involve legal implications, as laws dictate how remains must be handled.
The remains are currently with the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office, which is making arrangements to return the child to the family in Dallas. The Texas Funeral Service Commission has been alerted about the incident, and investigations will continue across state lines. Bordelon stated, “This is an unfortunate set of circumstances that no family should have to go through,” highlighting the seriousness of the negligence involved in this case.
