Manatee County Highlights Technology and AI for Hurricane Preparedness and Response

Manatee County Enhances Emergency Response with Innovative Technology

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — As hurricane season progresses, Manatee County is leveraging advanced technology to enhance its disaster response capabilities. This year marks the second collaboration between the county’s Emergency Management department and tech startup Peregrine, which has streamlined critical data from numerous sources into an integrated dashboard for first responders.

The partnership began shortly before Hurricane Debby, which inundated the county with record rainfall. Peregrine’s emergency management practice lead, Kyle Stanko, noted that their deployment team quickly integrated river gauges and pump station data to improve response efficacy during Debby’s impact.

"This collaboration enables us to create a comprehensive one-stop shop for our emergency operations, rather than navigating multiple data sources," said Matt Myers, Chief of Emergency Management for Manatee County. The upcoming storm season will also see the incorporation of artificial intelligence, allowing officials to analyze 9-1-1 and 3-1-1 calls in real-time for keywords related to flooding, significantly reducing response times.

Stanko commended Manatee County for its innovative approach, stating, “They’re one of the truly innovative agencies across the country.” This initiative has not only set a precedent locally but has also attracted attention from other Bay Area counties keen on adopting similar technologies as they prepare for storm season.

Peregrine’s tools have shown ongoing adaptability and improvement, with the company continually refining its systems to support emergency management efforts during hurricanes such as Helene and Milton. The county’s proactive stance promises to enhance public safety and response capabilities when every moment counts.
