Mountaineers Reach Regional Final After Victory Over Clemson

West Virginia Mountaineers Reach Regional Finals with 9-6 Victory Over Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The West Virginia University baseball team clinched its second consecutive regional final by defeating No. 11 Clemson, 9-6, on Saturday at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. With this win, the Mountaineers improved their season record to 43-14, while the Tigers fell to 45-17.

The game showcased a standout performance from junior Sam White, who delivered a pivotal go-ahead double in the ninth inning. The Mountaineers capitalized on this momentum with three additional runs in the same inning. Despite a late-game rally from Clemson, which had the bases loaded, junior Ben McDougal secured the win by striking out his sole batter faced.

In addition to White’s impressive hitting, senior Brodie Kresser contributed significantly with a 4-for-5 batting performance, scoring two runs. Sophomore Armani Guzman also made an impact with two hits and two RBIs.

On the pitching front, graduate student Jack Kartsonas started strong, throwing for 5.1 innings with seven strikeouts and allowing just two runs on three hits. Sophomore Chase Meyer earned the win with 2.1 innings of relief, striking out three batters, while McDougal notched his second save.

The game began with the Mountaineers taking a quick 3-0 lead, but Clemson fought back, tying the score in the sixth and taking the lead in the seventh. However, West Virginia responded, tying the game in the eighth through Guzman’s double.

The Mountaineers will now face the winner of the Clemson/Kentucky matchup in the regional final scheduled for 6 p.m. on Sunday, which will be broadcast on ESPN+ and potentially another network. For updates, follow @WVUBaseball on social media.
