Karol Nawrocki Elected as Poland’s President
In a surprising twist in Poland’s presidential election, Karol Nawrocki, the right-wing opposition candidate, narrowly won the presidency with 50.89% of the votes against liberal Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, who received 49.11%. He has expressed intentions to withdraw Poland from the EU’s Pact on Migration and Asylum and to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP amid ongoing concerns about Russian aggression due to the war in Ukraine.
As Nawrocki prepares to take office on August 6, expectations are high.
