West Virginia Health Right Launches Mobile Teaching Kitchen to Promote Healthy Living
Charleston, W.Va. – West Virginia Health Right (WVHR), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing healthcare to underserved communities, has unveiled a new Mobile Teaching Kitchen. The launch occurred on the Governor’s Mansion Lawn, attended by WVHR CEO Dr. Angie Settle, Governor Patrick Morrisey, and First Lady Denise Morrisey.
The Mobile Teaching Kitchen, featuring hands-on nutrition education and cooking demonstrations, aims to bring healthy food practices directly to communities. This initiative supports WVHR’s mission, serving over 45,000 underserved adults across 34 counties with a range of services, including medical and behavioral health care.
Governor Morrisey emphasized the importance of nutrition in achieving overall health and echoed his "Four Pillars of a Healthy West Virginia" initiative. He articulated that healthy, affordable food options should be accessible and emphasized learning how to prepare these meals at home.
Dr. Settle reinforced that food is fundamental to health, stating, “Food is medicine,” and expressed commitment to teaching individuals how to live healthier lives within their budget. The Mobile Teaching Kitchen will join other mobile units, furthering efforts to meet residents where they are, at community gatherings and events.
