West Virginia Sets New Milestone by Sweeping the Clemson Regional

West Virginia Baseball Makes History with Clemson Regional Victory

West Virginia University’s baseball team etched its name in history with a thrilling 13-12 victory over Kentucky in the Clemson Regional final on Sunday night. This marks the Mountaineers’ first back-to-back regional appearances, further solidifying their impressive run after sweeping through the tournament.

Head coach Steve Sabins lauded his team’s resilience, stating, "This team’s been doubted throughout the season. They are the most resilient bunch I’ve ever had the pleasure of coaching." The Mountaineers showcased their tenacity with three dramatic comebacks: a walk-off win against Kentucky on Friday, four runs in the ninth against Clemson, and a six-run eighth inning to clinch the regional title against Kentucky.

Sabins reflected on the unforgettable series, describing it as "the best three-game set" he has ever experienced in his career. This season, the Mountaineers also achieved the record for most wins in program history and secured their first outright Big 12 title.

Now, with a chance to advance to their first-ever College World Series, the Mountaineers are poised for further glory. "We’re building something special in Morgantown," Sabins asserted, highlighting the growing reputation of West Virginia baseball as one of the nation’s elite programs.
