Beasley and Carlen Continue Their Bid for College Football Hall of Fame Induction

Press Release: WVU’s Aaron Beasley and Coach Jim Carlen Nominated for College Football Hall of Fame

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University (WVU) is proud to announce that consensus All-American cornerback Aaron Beasley and former head coach Jim Carlen are featured on this year’s College Football Hall of Fame ballot, revealed by the National Football Foundation (NFF).

Aaron Beasley, a standout from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, made a remarkable impact during his collegiate career. He led the nation with ten interceptions in 1994 and garnered consensus All-American honors in 1995. Beasley, a two-time First Team All-Big East selection, was pivotal in leading the Mountaineers to an undefeated regular season and a Big East title in 1993. His impressive stats include 19 career interceptions, ranking second in school history, along with 38 pass breakups. After an illustrious college career, Beasley played nine seasons in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets, and Atlanta Falcons, earning a spot in the WVU Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.

Jim Carlen, a transformative figure in college football, coached at WVU from 1966-1969, reviving a struggling program. Under his leadership, the Mountaineers achieved a 10-win season in 1969, culminating in a Peach Bowl victory and a return to national rankings after 14 years. Carlen’s successful tenure continued at Texas Tech and South Carolina, where he led his teams to multiple bowl games and coached Heisman Trophy winner George Rogers. His overall coaching record stands at 107-69-6 over 16 seasons, with 13 winning campaigns.

This year’s ballot includes 79 players and nine coaches from the Football Bowl Subdivision, with voting from over 12,000 NFF members and Hall of Famers. The 2026 Hall of Fame Class will be announced in early 2025, celebrating the legacies of outstanding contributors to college football. Currently, 14 WVU-associated individuals are in the Hall of Fame, including recent inductee Steve Slaton.
