The West Virginia All-Stars triumphed over their Ohio counterparts with an 11-8 victory, wrapping up the evening with an exhilarating display of athleticism and camaraderie.
The event kicked off with a series of presentations honoring the OVAC’s 1A through 5A Players of the Year, recognized after each inning. The standout players included Madison Kelley (Conotton Valley, 1A), Makayla Mumaw (Caldwell, 2A), Giana Chirpas (Martins Ferry, 3A), Kelsey Powers (Harrison Central, 4A), and Sena Smith (Steubenville, 5A).
A highlight of the evening was the announcement of the Co-Coaches of the Year, bestowed upon Sherrie Garner of Oak Glen and Hannah Boyer of Bridgeport. Garner expressed her appreciation, stating, “It’s a huge compliment to be honored within your peer group.” Boyer echoed her gratitude by thanking her team and supportive community.
On the field, the game saw an early lead for West Virginia, with key players like Rayna Hoover scoring multiple times. Ohio surged ahead in the fifth inning with a six-run rally, but West Virginia regained control to clinch the win.
Both coaches praised the opportunity to honor the seniors and witness their talents, emphasizing the significance of such events in fostering community and sportsmanship. “It’s enjoyable and fun for them to come together with the other coaches and honor our seniors’ commitment to softball,” said Garner. Boyer added, “This was a great show of talent from both sides.”
The game not only celebrated the athletes’ achievements but also highlighted the vibrant sports community in the OVAC.
