West Virginia All-Stars Triumph in OVAC Softball Showdown
WHEELING – The annual OVAC All-Star Softball Game showcased senior talent in a thrilling match on Monday at the JB Chambers I-470 Sports Complex, with the West Virginia All-Stars clinching an 11-8 victory.
The event celebrated individual achievements, honoring the Players of the Year from classes 1A to 5A. Madison Kelley (Conotton Valley), Makayla Mumaw (Caldwell), Giana Chirpas (Martins Ferry), Kelsey Powers (Harrison Central), and Sena Smith (Steubenville) received accolades after each inning. During the game, Oak Glen’s Sherrie Garner and Bridgeport’s Hannah Boyer were recognized as Co-Coaches of the Year, expressing gratitude towards their teams and communities.
The game began with a strong performance from West Virginia, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Ohio responded with a six-run fifth, temporarily taking the lead, but West Virginia surged back in the seventh, ultimately securing the win.
Garner reflected, "This is such an enjoyable experience to bring these seniors together," while Boyer highlighted the impressive talent displayed. The matchup not only honored individual players but also promoted camaraderie between Ohio and West Virginia athletes, marking a memorable event for all involved.
