Cabell Midland Crowned Champions at WVSSAC State Softball Championships
This past weekend, the WVSSAC state championships showcased West Virginia’s high school softball elite. Cabell Midland claimed the AAAA state title with a commanding 2-0 victory over Jefferson, finishing the season on a high note and claiming the top spot in our final rankings.
Despite the loss, Jefferson’s performance throughout the season, including their progression to the championship game, solidified their position as the second-best team in the state. Winfield’s narrow 2-1 victory over Frankfort in the AAA state championship also elevated them into the top tier.
The tournament highlighted impressive individual performances, such as Avery Noel, who achieved 13 home runs and 40 RBIs, and Maddie Campbell, who batted .436 with seven home runs over the season.
Hurricane, which had held the No. 1 ranking earlier, dropped in the standings after two losses to Cabell Midland, concluding a strong season that saw them defeated by Frankfort in the playoffs.
With rankings finalized, teams will now enter the off-season, setting the stage for an exciting return in the next season. For more updates on high school softball in West Virginia, follow High School on SI.
