A fistfight at a Michigan high school graduation escalated into a search for a 20-year-old suspect, Jamarion Jaryante Hardiman, implicated in an attempted mass shooting. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard announced the manhunt during a press conference. Hardiman, currently on probation for a weapons charge, remains at large. A 19-year-old suspect, with a history of weapon offenses, is already in custody, although his identity has not been disclosed pending charges.
During the graduation ceremony for the Arts and Technology Academy of Pontiac, law enforcement responded to a reported fight at around 6:40 p.m. An individual alerted deputies about a threatening Snapchat post that allegedly suggested shooting at the event. Although the exact wording has been removed, it reportedly indicated intentions to target the crowd.
Upon arrival, deputies identified Hardiman and the other suspect, who were seen placing bags under cars. Investigation revealed two fully-loaded firearms: a pink AR-style pistol and a Glock semi-automatic handgun, both equipped with high-capacity magazines. The sheriff emphasized the potential devastation had the weapons been used at the crowded graduation.
While a minor altercation occurred during the event, it was swiftly managed by staff. The school later stated that no one was harmed, allowing the ceremony to proceed without further incident.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from approaching Hardiman and to report any sightings. Bouchard expressed confidence in apprehending Hardiman and urged him to surrender, stating, “One way or another we’re going to get you.”
