LSU Powers Past West Virginia in Game One of Super Regional

LSU Tigers Dominate Game One of Baton Rouge Regional Against West Virginia

Saturday afternoon marked a historic showdown as the LSU Tigers faced the West Virginia Mountaineers in Game One of the 2025 Baton Rouge Regional, which reached record temperatures. Despite West Virginia initially taking the lead in the second inning, LSU’s freshman star Derek Curiel shifted the momentum with a pivotal three-run homer in the fourth inning that broke up Mountaineers’ starter Griffin Kirn’s no-hitter.

"He saw the slider pop and made a great swing," noted Curiel on his game-changing hit. LSU’s pitcher Kade Anderson delivered an impressive performance, striking out seven over seven innings, as he battled the sweltering heat and a challenging West Virginia lineup.

Head Coach Jay Johnson praised Anderson’s grit and acknowledged the meticulous game plan executed by the Tigers, who scored 16 runs in a sensational offensive showcase, tying for the third most runs in Super Regional history.

Josh Pearson and Steven Milam joined Curiel in a home run surge, both hitting grand slams. The Mountaineers, undeterred by the defeat, are focused on bouncing back in Game Two. The teams will clash again Sunday at 5 p.m., with LSU aiming for a trip to Omaha.
