West Virginia Baseball Falls to LSU in NCAA Super Regionals

Baton Rouge, LA – The West Virginia University baseball team suffered a setback against the No. 6 LSU Tigers, falling 16-9 in the opening game of the NCAA Super Regionals at Alex Box Stadium on Saturday afternoon. This loss drops the Mountaineers to 44-15 for the season, while LSU improves to 47-15.

Junior Sam White shone at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Freshman Gavin Kelly contributed significantly with three hits, including a two-run homer, marking his second of the season. Senior Kyle West also made an impact with two RBIs and a two-run home run in the ninth inning.

West Virginia initially took the lead in the second inning, but LSU quickly turned the tide, scoring a three-run homer in the fourth. The Tigers exploded for seven additional runs in the fifth, taking control of the game.

Despite a spirited comeback attempt, highlighted by a four-run sixth inning, LSU countered with six runs of their own. The Mountaineers are set to face LSU again in game two of the best-of-three series on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET. For updates, follow @WVUBaseball on social media.
