West Virginia All-Star Football Team Takes the Field in Cystic Fibrosis Classic
ST. MARYS — The West Virginia all-star football team is set to compete in the 30th Battle Against Cystic Fibrosis Football All-Star Classic this Friday at Bill Hanlin Stadium, with Rob Price at the helm as head coach. Price, fresh off his inaugural season as an assistant coach at St. Marys High School, has had a tumultuous year in the coaching scene, starting with Paden City High School’s unexpected closure last summer as he was engaged in a 7-on-7 competition.
"Imagine telling your players at a 7-on-7 that their school is closing," Price recalled. After serving as head coach at Paden City, where he led the Wildcats to an impressive 8-2 season, he was invited to join Jodi Mote’s successful coaching staff at St. Marys.
The postseason saw its own dramatic turns, as St. Marys arrived at a playoff game to find they weren’t part of the revised bracket. Throughout this roller coaster of events, Price remained committed to fostering strong relationships with his players, a key factor in their past successes.
"I’ve gained so much working with the staff at St. Marys," Price said, expressing his desire to return as a head coach in the future. For now, he’s focused on the all-star game, which features a talented roster including five first-team all-staters.
As the excitement builds ahead of Friday’s game, Price highlighted the opportunity for players to showcase their skills one last time and to honor the fight against cystic fibrosis. "This is a chance for these athletes to play the game they love," he said.
