West Virginia’s Season Concludes with Loss to LSU in NCAA Super Regional

West Virginia Baseball Season Ends with Loss to LSU in Super Regionals

BATON ROUGE, La. – West Virginia University’s baseball season concluded on Sunday as the Mountaineers were defeated by No. 6 LSU, 12-5, in the NCAA Super Regionals at Alex Box Stadium. With this loss, WVU finishes the season with an impressive 44-16 record.

Key contributions came from juniors Sam White and Ben Lumsden, who each hit home runs and drove in two runs. Senior Jace Rinehart also added a home run, marking his ninth of the season. However, the pitching staff struggled, with graduate Jack Kartsonas taking the loss after allowing six runs in just two innings. In contrast, sophomore Chase Meyer recorded four strikeouts over four innings, and junior Ben McDougal excelled with 2.1 hitless innings.

LSU jumped to an early lead, scoring one run in the first inning and five in the second. While the Mountaineers attempted a comeback, narrowing the gap to just two runs, defensive errors in the seventh allowed LSU to score six more runs—five of which were unearned. Rinehart’s eighth-inning home run was not enough to spark a late rally. With this victory, LSU moves on to the College World Series, set to begin on June 13 in Omaha, Nebraska.
