Despite a valiant effort from West Virginia, including solo home runs from Sam White and Ben Lumsden, the Mountaineers struggled to keep pace. A late surge saw West Virginia narrowing the score to 6-4, but LSU responded decisively with a six-run seventh inning, highlighted by Brown’s two-run homer.
West Virginia finishes the season with a remarkable 44-16 record, marking a program high under first-year coach Steve Sabins. The Mountaineers made history by reaching their first super regional last season, highlighting their ongoing progress.
The game, initially scheduled for 5:06 p.m., faced a weather delay of approximately three hours, but the Tigers’ determination remained undeterred. With the victory, LSU now shifts its focus to the upcoming College World Series tournament.
